How to use the Ovulation Calculator
- Enter the first day of the last menstrual period.
- Use an average cycle length from several cycles and adjust the luteal phase if known.
- Treat all displayed dates as estimates, not confirmation of ovulation.
How the calculation works
Estimated ovulation = next period − luteal phaseThe next period is estimated by adding average cycle length to the last-period start date. The fertile window spans approximately five days before ovulation through one day after.
Example calculation
For a 28-day cycle beginning August 1 with a 14-day luteal phase, the next period is estimated around August 29 and ovulation around August 15.
How to interpret the result
Cycle timing can vary even when usually regular. Calendar estimates cannot confirm ovulation and should not be relied on as contraception.
Notes and assumptions
- Cycle length and luteal phase remain close to the entered averages.
- The fertile window is an approximate biological range.
- This tool is educational, not medical advice, diagnosis, fertility treatment, or birth control.
Ovulation Calculator questions
Is the ovulation date exact?
No. It is a calendar estimate and actual ovulation may occur earlier or later.
Can this prevent pregnancy?
No. Do not rely on this estimate as contraception; discuss reliable options with a qualified clinician.
What if cycles are irregular?
Calendar estimates become less reliable. A healthcare professional can advise on appropriate tracking or evaluation.
