Instructions

How to use the Pace Calculator

  1. Choose kilometers or miles and enter the completed distance.
  2. Enter elapsed hours, minutes, and seconds.
  3. Use pace for split planning and speed for a distance-per-hour comparison.
Formula

How the calculation works

Pace = elapsed time ÷ distance

Distance is normalized to kilometers. Pace is displayed per kilometer and per mile, while average speed divides distance by elapsed hours.

Worked example

Example calculation

Completing 10 km in 50 minutes gives a pace of 5:00 per kilometer, about 8:03 per mile, and an average speed of 12 km/h.

How to interpret the result

Average pace smooths hills, stops, and speed changes across the full activity. Race-course distance and device measurements can differ slightly.

Important context

Notes and assumptions

  • Elapsed time and distance cover the same activity.
  • Pauses are included if they are part of the entered elapsed time.
  • Training decisions should consider fitness, conditions, and health, not pace alone.
