Instructions

How to use the Salary Calculator

  1. Choose whether your starting amount is hourly or annual.
  2. Enter the pay amount and the schedule you expect to work and be paid.
  3. Compare the equivalent hourly, weekly, average monthly, and annual gross amounts.
Formula

How the calculation works

Annual pay = hourly rate × hours per week × paid weeks per year

To convert annual pay back to hourly pay, divide annual salary by hours per week and paid weeks per year. Monthly pay is annual pay divided by 12, so it is an average rather than an exact paycheck amount.

Worked example

Example calculation

At $25 per hour, 40 hours per week, and 52 paid weeks, annual gross pay is $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000. Average monthly gross pay is $52,000 ÷ 12 = $4,333.33.

How to interpret the result

Equivalent gross pay helps compare offers quoted on different schedules. A higher gross figure is not automatically a better package if benefits, paid leave, job security, expenses, or tax treatment differ.

Important context

Notes and assumptions

  • The same number of regular hours is worked each paid week.
  • Overtime, bonuses, commissions, benefits, taxes, and deductions are excluded.
  • Monthly pay is an annual average; actual payroll calendars may have varying paycheck counts.
Common questions

Salary Calculator questions

How do I convert salary to hourly pay?

Divide annual salary by paid weeks per year, then divide by hours worked per week.

Does the result show take-home pay?

No. It shows gross equivalents before taxes and deductions.

Should I use 52 weeks?

Use 52 when all weeks are paid. Reduce the value for unpaid time away from work.
