How the calculation works
GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ creditsEach course contributes grade points multiplied by its credit value. Dividing total quality points by total credits gives the weighted GPA; the unweighted average treats every course equally.
Example calculation
For grade points 4.0, 3.7, and 3.3 with 3, 4, and 3 credits, quality points are 12 + 14.8 + 9.9 = 36.7. Dividing by 10 credits gives a 3.67 GPA.
How to interpret the result
A weighted-by-credit GPA gives larger courses more influence. Institutional rules may treat repeated classes, pass/fail work, honors weighting, and rounding differently.
