How the calculation works
Metric fuel = distance × (L/100 km) ÷ 100For US inputs, gallons equal miles divided by MPG. Round trips double one-way distance. Fuel required is multiplied by price, then optionally divided among passengers.
Example calculation
A 240 km round trip at 7.5 L/100 km uses 18 L. At 1.60 per liter, estimated fuel cost is 28.80, or 14.40 each for two people.
How to interpret the result
Actual consumption changes with speed, traffic, weather, load, route, and vehicle condition. Use a real observed fuel economy when available.
Notes and assumptions
- Fuel economy remains constant across the trip.
- The estimate excludes tolls, parking, maintenance, and vehicle depreciation.
- Passengers split fuel cost equally.
